How to get recommended by AI assistants in Gibraltar

A practical guide for Gibraltar businesses: how ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI choose which businesses to name, and what to do about it.

Published 2 min readBy Visibility

Short answer

AI assistants name a business when they already know it from their training data, or when they find it on the web while answering. To be named more often, let their crawlers read your site, state plainly what you do and where, be described consistently on the other sites they trust, answer the questions customers actually ask, and measure the result rather than guessing it.

Why does this matter for a Gibraltar business?

More people now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity or Google's AI answers where to eat, who to hire or which firm to call, instead of scrolling a list of links. An assistant usually names a handful of businesses, not ten pages of results. If yours is not one of them, that customer never sees you.

Gibraltar is a small market with a lot of visitors: cruise passengers, day visitors from Spain, people moving here for work. Many of them have no local knowledge and ask an assistant first. That makes AI answers matter more here, not less.

What are the six steps?

  1. 1Understand how assistants choose: what they already know, and what they look up.
  2. 2Let AI crawlers read your website: nothing else works if robots.txt or a firewall turns them away.
  3. 3Make your website easy to understand: plain text, a clear title, your details in structured data.
  4. 4Get described the same way everywhere: assistants believe what other sites say about you.
  5. 5Answer the questions customers really ask: the obvious phrase is rarely the one people type.
  6. 6Measure your position: one search in ChatGPT tells you almost nothing.

Each chapter ends with what to do this week. The first three are things you can check and fix yourself, for free, in an afternoon.

Can anyone guarantee a place in AI answers?

No. Nobody outside OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or Perplexity controls what their assistants say, and anyone promising a guaranteed position is selling something they cannot deliver. What you can do is remove the reasons an assistant has to leave you out, and then measure whether that changed anything.

Visibility measures AI answers and reports what came back. It does not rate or score businesses, and nothing a business buys from us changes what an assistant answers. How we measure.

Common questions

Is this the same as SEO?

It overlaps. A site that is easy for Google to read is usually easier for AI assistants too, but assistants name a few businesses rather than ranking many, and they lean heavily on what other sites say about you. The guide covers both the overlap and the differences.

Do I need to pay for a tool to do this?

No. The first three chapters use free checks, including our AI crawler check and llms.txt generator. Paying for measurement becomes useful when you want to know whether your changes worked, week after week.

How long does it take to see a change?

It depends on the assistant. Answers that search the web can change as soon as the pages they read change. What a model knows from training changes only when a new version is released, which can take months.
