Get described the same way everywhere

Why AI assistants trust what other sites say about your business, and how to make your name, address, services and hours agree everywhere they appear.

Published 3 min readBy Visibility

Short answer

AI assistants trust what several independent sites agree on more than what one site says about itself. Make sure your business name, address, phone number, services and opening hours are identical on your website, your Google Business Profile, directories, review sites and social profiles, and fix the ones that are wrong.

Why do other websites matter so much?

When an assistant searches the web to answer a question, it reads several pages and writes from what they have in common. Your own website is one voice. Directories, review sites, local news, tourism sites and your Google Business Profile are others, and they often carry more weight because you did not write them.

When those sources disagree, the assistant has to choose, or leaves you out. An old address on a directory, a closed branch still listed, or a different name on Facebook are all reasons for an assistant to hesitate.

In Visibility, the Sites AI trusts view lists the sites assistants actually cited for your sector's questions, so you can see which of them mention you and which do not.

Which details need to match?

  • Name. One form, used everywhere. If people also know you by a shorter name, use it alongside the full one, not instead of it.
  • Address. The same street address, written the same way, including "Gibraltar".
  • Phone. The same number, with the +350 country code on anything international.
  • What you do. The same description of your main services, in the words customers use.
  • Hours. Kept current everywhere, including holiday hours.
  • Website address. The same one, ideally the exact address your site ends up on (with or without www).

Where should a Gibraltar business check its listings?

Start with the places a customer or an assistant is most likely to land:

  1. 1Google Business Profile. Google's own local results draw on it. Claim it, complete every field, and keep hours current.
  2. 2Apple Maps and Bing Places. Apple Business Connect feeds Apple Maps and Siri; Bing Places feeds Bing and Microsoft Copilot. Both are free.
  3. 3Review and booking sites relevant to your trade, such as Tripadvisor for hospitality.
  4. 4Local directories and trade bodies that list businesses in your sector.
  5. 5Your social profiles, which should all link back to your website.

Then search your business name in an assistant with web search on, and look at which sites it cites. Those are the ones to correct first.

How do I get mentioned on more sites?

The honest route is to do things worth writing about and tell the people who write: local press, sector newsletters, community and charity work, partnerships with other businesses, useful guides on your own site that others link to.

Avoid paid link schemes and fake reviews. Beyond the ethics, they are exactly the pattern search engines and assistants are built to discount.

What should you do this week?

  1. 1Claim or update your Google Business Profile, then Apple Business Connect and Bing Places.
  2. 2Search your name in ChatGPT and Perplexity with web search on, and list the sites they cite.
  3. 3Correct any listing with an old address, phone number, name or hours.

Common questions

An assistant says something wrong about my business. Can I correct it?

Not directly. Find where the wrong fact comes from, usually an outdated listing or article cited in the answer, and correct it there. Answers that search the web can change once the source changes; a model's trained knowledge changes only with a new version.

Do reviews affect AI recommendations?

Assistants often read review sites when answering "best" questions, and summarise what reviewers say. Genuine, recent reviews give them something specific to cite. None of the companies publishes exactly how reviews are weighed.

Should I list my business on every directory I can find?

No. A few accurate listings on sites people actually use are worth more than many neglected ones, which tend to go out of date and contradict each other.
